The 2023 World Junior Hockey Championship is set to run from December 26th through January 5th and the Habs will be very well represented with six prospects named to the original rosters plus a seventh joining mid-tournament. As usual, we’ll keep track of their stats here.
Penalties have been a problem for the Habs this season and that trend continued heading into the holiday break. However, Montreal managed to pick up three points in spite of that in the first leg of their road trip.
The 2023 World Junior Hockey Championship will get underway on Monday and while the Habs had a couple of players get cut, they will still be well-represented with players in prominent roles. Here’s a look at who will be participating.
The Habs looked to hit the holiday break on a high note as they travelled to Dallas on Friday to take on the Stars. They started off well but penalty trouble came back to bite them as they fell 4-2.
While last week probably didn’t go exactly as planned for Laval, it was a pretty good one overall for them as they picked up a pair of victories and managed to gain some ground on the final play-in spot in the North Division.
The week got off to a decent start for the Habs but they were unable to sustain it as they dropped their last three for their second three-game losing streak of the season. Montreal also got some disappointing news on the prospect front with a pair of players being cut from Canada’s World Junior camp.
The Habs were looking to close out the home portion of their 2022 schedule on a winning note on Saturday night against Tampa Bay. It didn’t happen. They were down early and couldn’t recover, falling 5-2.
After falling to Ottawa on Wednesday, the Habs were back in action Thursday as they hosted the Ducks. Montreal played like a team that looked tired for most of the night and a late spark in the third wasn’t enough as they fell 5-2.
With a pair of games against one of the teams they’re trying to catch in the North Division, the Rocket needed to sweep Belleville. They came up just short of doing so but they were at least able to gain a point on them in the standings.
This past week for the Habs kicked off with what will certainly be one of the more bizarre games of the season and ended with one of the more frustrating ones as they were more or less shut down by the Kings. Plus, some thoughts on some poor decisions when it comes to Montreal’s recent roster management.
