Jacob Fowler made his first NHL start in nearly two months on Wednesday and was quite effective at holding Ottawa’s attackers at bay. That was enough for Ivan Demidov’s third-period goal to stand as the winner with the Habs taking it 3-2.
It appears the Habs will be returning to a three-goalie system as they continue their push to the playoffs. The team announced on Wednesday that they’ve recalled Jacob Fowler from Laval.
The Habs had one of their best first periods of the season on Tuesday against Toronto. While they didn’t score much after that, that strong opening 20 minutes was enough to carry them to a 3-1 victory.
The beginning of March saw the Habs head out West for their California road trip. They pulled off third-period comebacks in all three of them but even with that, they were only able to come away with three of a possible six points.
The Habs got off to a terrible start in Los Angeles, being outshot 16-1 at one point. However, even after they had blown a lead to trail in the third, the top line was able to restore that with two tallies in less than a minute to give Montreal the 4-3 victory.
The Habs trailed for a good chunk of Friday’s game in Anaheim. While they once again pulled off a multi-goal comeback in the third period, they weren’t able to come away with the win, falling 6-5 in a shootout.
Friday was the NHL’s trade deadline and with the Habs in a playoff spot, many wondered if they’d be making a trade. However, 3 PM ET came and went with Montreal staying on the sidelines.
At the 60-game mark of the season, nearly three-quarters of the campaign have come and gone. The Habs continue to play with plenty of consistency in five-game segments, even though their game-to-game performances can still vary greatly.
The second half of Tuesday’s game in San Jose became a barn-burner offensively. However, the Sharks were able to put just enough shots past Jakub Dobes to give them the 7-5 win.
