The Habs started a tough back-to-back set on Friday with a game in Vegas. Samuel Montembeault had his best performance of the season in goal while Montreal’s top six chipped in with three goals to give Montreal the 4-1 win.
After a tough outing against Los Angeles on Tuesday, the Habs were hoping to rebound on Thursday as they hosted Dallas. It didn’t happen. Instead, the visitors put up seven goals on 19 shots to leave with a 7-0 victory.
The Habs have struggled against Los Angeles in recent years and Tuesday’s game at the Bell Centre was no exception. While they led after the first period, the Kings scored five unanswered from there to win 5-1.
The Habs were chasing the play a lot on Thursday night in New Jersey but found themselves with the lead in the third period. However, Timo Meier tied it late and Jesper Bratt scored in overtime as Jakub Dobes picked up his first loss of the season.
The Habs got off to a terrible start on Tuesday against Philadelphia, trailing by three before the first commercial break. While they responded with a four-goal second period, they couldn’t hold the lead and eventually fell 5-4 in a shootout.
The Canadiens weren’t able to hold an early two-goal lead on Saturday, eventually finding themselves trailing in the third period. However, Ivan Demidov tied it late and Alex Newhook scored in overtime to give Montreal the 4-3 victory.
A big second half push from the Habs on Saturday made the difference. They scored four times in the back half of the game while Ivan Demidov’s second goal of the season stood as the winner in a 4-3 game.
In a back-and-forth affair on Thursday night that also featured some questionable officiating, the Habs came up just short in Edmonton as Vasily Podkolzin’s late winner gave the Oilers the 6-5 win.
The Habs trailed for a significant portion of Thursday’s game against Nashville but a Cole Caufield goal in the dying seconds of regulation sent it to overtime. Then, with just two seconds left, he potted the winner, giving Montreal the 3-2 victory.
After a disappointing ending to Wednesday’s opener, Montreal’s offence bounced back in a big way on Thursday night, scoring five times in the first two periods as they picked up a 5-1 victory for their first win of the season.
