The top players didn’t score but Montreal’s supporting cast got the job done in Game 5 as a late P-A Parenteau goal was the difference maker in a 2-1 victory for the home side.
Given how rocky his time with the Hamilton Bulldogs was, it should come as no surprise that Magnus Nygren has decided to go back to playing in Sweden.
The Habs were looking to avoid being pushed to the brink of elimination on Wednesday night. However, Tyler Johnson had other plans as a last second goal gave the Lightning a 2-1 win and a commanding 3-0 series lead.
The second round has not got off to the start that the Habs would have liked. They lost both games at home to Tampa Bay, ceding home ice advantage while largely embarrassing themselves in the second game to make matters worse. Now, they must travel to Tampa to try to stay alive.
The Habs were looking to even up their second round series on Sunday night. Unfortunately, indiscipline got the best of them as the Lightning collected four power play goals en route to a 6-2 victory.
The first round was full of surprises, both good and bad as some players thrived while others struggled. This has resulted in quite a few players being thought of as wildcards as the Habs prepare to take on Tampa Bay.
It took three attempts to finish off the series but the Habs finally eliminated the Senators to move onto the second round of the playoffs. While we wait for who their next opponent will be, we have a chance to look back at some of the good and bad from Round One with the weekly Cheers and Jeers.
After a rough game on Friday, Carey Price was expected to have a bounce back game on Sunday night. He turned in his best game of the series, pitching a 43 save shutout as the Habs are moving onto the second round after a 2-0 win.
The Habs were looking to take advantage of home ice to end their first round series against Ottawa but it was the visitors who had the last laugh, winning 5-1 on Friday night to force Game 6 on Sunday.
