The second quarter of St. John’s season had more ups than downs as the team really struggled with consistency. That was particularly an issue on the back end, which is where we start with our quarterly grades.
With most leagues being either at or near their midseason marks, it’s a good time to look back at our preseason prospect rankings. Some players have seen their stocks rise while others have dropped considerably.
The scoring struggles weren’t just limited to the Habs back in December as quite a few of their prospects struggled to produce as well. Nonetheless, there were a few players who were able to stand out amongst the rest.
The 2016 World Juniors are almost upon us and for the first time in many years, the Canadiens will not have any prospects representing them. However, quite a few current Habs and IceCaps have had a chance to suit up for their respective countries in the past with quite a bit of success.
Last month, the IceCaps passed the one quarter mark of their season as one of the top scoring teams in the AHL. Not surprisingly, with the attack as good as it was, there are plenty of high grades to go around for St. John’s forwards.

The IceCaps were looking to sweep the weekend and end their four game home stand on a winning note as they hosted Syracuse on Saturday. Although they got the game to overtime, the Crunch scored late in the extra frame to win 2-1.
The hockey calendar is in full swing across the Northern Hemisphere and the group of Habs prospects in Europe — Magnus Nygren, Martin Reway, Lukas Vejdemo, Joonas Nattinen and Artturi Lehkonen — are already well underway writing their stories for the 2015-16 season.
