After winning three must-win games last week, Laval kicked off their best-of-three series against Utica on Wednesday. Already, they’re facing two more must-win games after the Comets picked up the 4-0 victory.
A late-season hot streak allowed Laval to come back from the bottom of the North Division and get into the four-five matchup. They’ll be taking on New Jersey’s affiliate in Utica in a best-of-three series. Here’s an overview of the matchup.
In order to give themselves a realistic shot at holding onto a play-in position, Laval needed to sweep the week on home ice. They were able to do just that and with a bit of good fortune elsewhere, the Rocket will live to play another day.
We have finally reached the top five of our 2022-23 prospect rankings. Some of these players have gone out and now established themselves as regulars and won’t be on this list next season while others still have a ways to go in their development but have high ceilings.
Laval had a chance to get a bit of distance on the final play-in spot in the North Division last week. They weren’t able to get it but enter the final week of the season holding down that last spot.
The month of March featured the start of the playoffs for some leagues while others were well into their stretch runs. The Habs had several prospects saving their best performances for last at those levels.
In our next group of prospects, we have a collection that was relatively untested at the professional level heading into the season. Some are already established with the Habs while others might not be far away from doing so.
The road hasn’t been kind to Laval this season which made their Western road trip even more daunting. However, with three straight victories last week, they’ve put themselves in control of their playoff destiny once again.
The Habs have signed another one of their college prospects, announcing on Friday that they’ve signed goaltender Jakub Dobes to a two-year, entry-level deal. The contract will begin next season.
While Laval still has a bit of time left, they failed to finish up strong on home ice, giving them some more work to do to get back into the playoff picture. However, their road trip has gotten off to a good start at least.
