The Habs looked to sweep the weekend and their season series against Pittsburgh on Sunday. While they were able to tie the game to send it to overtime, they weren’t able to pick up the extra point, falling 4-3 in a shootout.
The Habs kicked off a back-to-back home-and-home set against Pittsburgh on Saturday. In their final home game of 2025, they put forth one of their better games as of late. Owen Beck had his first NHL goal while Jacob Fowler had his first NHL shutout in a 4-0 victory.
For the second straight year, the Habs swung a trade before the holiday roster freeze. They’ve brought back a familiar face, acquiring Phillip Danault from Los Angeles for a second-round pick.
The Habs and Blackhawks were tied heading into the third period but Montreal picked up three tallies in the third to secure a key 4-1 victory on Thursday night.
The Habs had the lead on Tuesday for less than a minute in total as the Flyers quickly erased Montreal’s advantage, scoring four unanswered to pick up the 4-1 win.
The week started ugly and the Habs blew a three-goal lead in another game. However, they still wound up with two wins and five points overall, a performance that keeps them right in the thick of the playoff race.
After blowing the lead on Saturday against the Rangers, the Habs had another three-goal advantage on Sunday against Edmonton. This time, they played much better with the advantage, eventually earning the 4-1 victory.
Despite shots being few and far between, the Habs got off to a great start on Saturday, getting a 3-0 lead on the Rangers. However, they weren’t able to hold and eventually fell 5-4 in overtime.
Montreal’s recent five-game stretch had another ugly performance in there but there were several numbers that have things pointing in the right direction for the Habs.
The Habs were in Pittsburgh on Thursday for Jacob Fowler’s NHL debut. The netminder was ready for the task, giving the visitors some steady goaltending. Meanwhile, Montreal’s offence gave him ample support, allowing the Canadiens to get the 4-2 win.
