In a game decided by a score that looked more like a beer league game, the porous defensive effort finally cost the Habs as they fell 7-6 in overtime to the Canucks on Monday night despite being up 4-0 for a large portion of the contest.
The Habs had a trio of Western Conference opponents on the docket this past week and put forth three different efforts. One was lousy, one was mediocre that required Jake Allen stealing a game, and the other was pretty good although they weren’t rewarded for their efforts.
After kicking off their road trip with a win on Thursday, the Habs were in Edmonton to take on the Oilers on Saturday night. Aside from some penalty problems, they played a solid game but that penalty trouble did them in as they fell 5-3.
Thursday was a big night for Sean Monahan in his return to Calgary but Jake Allen stole the show for the Habs, making 45 saves as the Canadiens were able to score just enough to beat the Flames 2-1.

The Canadiens are building a culture of winning and it starts with the kids. No fewer than eight youngsters of note have been in the lineup most nights for Montreal and with the team doing relatively well during the first quarter of the season, they’re playing a big role in establishing that culture.
The Habs were back at home on Tuesday for a matchup against San Jose before heading out West. However, their struggles against them continued as they fell 4-0, their third straight time being blanked by the Sharks.
The Habs had some success on the road this past week as they picked up a pair of victories away from the Bell Centre including a rare victory in Columbus, a place where it had been a while since they had any success.
