The Habs had three crucial games in the standings this past week. They won two of them to continue to hold onto a playoff spot but the way they lost the other one will be a source of frustration for them for a while.
After a disappointing loss in Detroit on Thursday, the Habs had yet another game against a team right behind them in the standings on Saturday as they hosted the Islanders. The top line took over when it mattered most, leading Montreal to a 7-3 win.
The Habs were in Detroit on Thursday for a crucial divisional game. However, they couldn’t muster up much offence and a late turnover from Mike Matheson proved costly as the Red Wings picked up the 3-1 win.
After a disappointing weekend, the Habs looked to get back on track Tuesday with a key divisional game against Boston. They never led in the game but it didn’t matter as Cole Caufield’s overtime winner gave them the 3-2 win.
Last week was a tale of two halves for the Habs. In the first half against divisional rivals, they took care of business. However, over the weekend against a pair of Western opponents, they struggled and failed to pick up any points, leading to a split week overall.
In their first matchup of the season earlier this month, the Habs pulled off a multi-goal comeback against Anaheim but lost. History repeated itself in this one as they pulled off a two-goal comeback but couldn’t hold the lead, eventually falling 4-3.
Montreal’s overall consistency this season has helped put them in a strong position heading into the final month and a very important stretch run. But, of course, there’s now a potential goalie controversy brewing.
The Habs kicked off their third straight back-to-back set on Saturday as they hosted San Jose. However, they looked more like a team in the second half of it instead of the first, helping to allow San Jose to double them up by a score of 4-2.
