The Habs have managed to get through a rough patch to remain in the mix for a postseason spot which is the best we can expect, at least for the time being.

The Habs kicked off their annual Western Canadian road trip on Tuesday with a clash against Vancouver. Despite a good first period, the Habs found themselves down by a goal. However, they clawed back to earn a key 3-1 victory.

While it was a successful week in the standings for the Habs with a pair of victories in three games, it still ended on a disappointing note following another loss to Detroit as the offence continues to sputter.

The streaking Habs welcomed the lowly Red Wings to town in their final home game of 2019 on Saturday night. They controlled most of the game but it was Detroit walking away with the two points following a 2-1 victory.

The Habs did not play a complete game but relied on rookie backup Cayden Primeau to stand tall and keep them in the game long enough for them to earn a 3-2 overtime victory against the Ottawa Senators for their third straight victory on Wednesday night.

The Habs rebounded from a slow first period but dominated the second and played a perfect road third period to take advantage of a Penguins team that sorely lacks depth due to a rash of injuries on their way to a 4-1 win on Tuesday night.

The Habs were finally able to snap their losing streak this past week while picking up a pair of victories against New York teams. All has not been fixed but it’s at least a start.

With the Canadiens being on the bubble for a playoff spot once again, they’re at a crossroads and it’s time for Marc Bergevin to consider the long-term picture.
