Getting shots on goal wasn’t a problem for Laval last week as they averaged over 45 per game. However, it didn’t result in as much success in the standings as they were hoping for as they played to a 1-1-1 record.
2023 didn’t exactly get off to the best of starts for the Habs with a pair of tough losses although they were able to rebound on Saturday to salvage a victory and snap what was a seven-game losing streak.
After an ugly end to 2022, the Habs looked to kick off 2023 on a winning note in Nashville on Tuesday. However, they were once again down big early and couldn’t recover, falling 6-3.

Unlike their NHL counterparts, Laval finished off 2022 on a high note with a pair of important victories over division-rival Syracuse. In doing so, they have pulled themselves out of the division basement for the time being.
The Habs closed out 2022 on about as low of a note as possible with a trio of largely uninspired losses as their season-long road trip continues. Perhaps even more concerning is that it’s the veteran players who are showing signs of cracking which is the focus of the Final Thought segment.
Last week wound up being a light one for Laval with one of their games being postponed due to weather. Unfortunately for them, the one they did play didn’t have a happy ending. Even worse, their rapidly thinned-out defensive depth has taken two more recent hits.
The 2023 World Junior Hockey Championship is set to run from December 26th through January 5th and the Habs will be very well represented with six prospects named to the original rosters plus a seventh joining mid-tournament. As usual, we’ll keep track of their stats here.
Penalties have been a problem for the Habs this season and that trend continued heading into the holiday break. However, Montreal managed to pick up three points in spite of that in the first leg of their road trip.
