Despite losing both games at home, the Habs didn’t fold and won a hard fought Game 5 to extend their season.
They’re alive! The Habs are still alive after riding a pair of early first period goals en route to a 2-1 victory over Washington in Game 5.
For the second straight game, the Habs played solid for 40 minutes but allowed 4 goals in the other stanza en route to a 6-3 loss in which the score by no means reflected the quality of the game.
Though the week ended in heartbreak, it was still a good one for the Habs who earned a split with Washington.
On Saturday, the Habs jumped to a 4-1 lead late in the 2nd but let it slip away, including the game tying goal with less than 2 minutes left to send it to OT where Nicklas Backstrom scored the winner not even a minute in.
It may not have been pretty, but the Habs did just enough to qualify for the playoffs for the 3rd straight season; they’ll play Washington in the 1st round.
“Tickets! Get your playoff tickets!” That will be the saying in Montreal as the Habs clinched a playoff spot on Saturday night.
Though the week started off poorly, the Habs rebounded with a pair of crucial wins to put themselves on the verge of securing a playoff spot.
After what could generously be classified as a so-so outing in Philadelphia, the Habs rebounded with one of their best efforts of the season, beating the Buffalo Sabres 3-0 on Saturday night.
The good news is that the Habs managed to get 2 points in a must win game in Philadelphia on Friday night.
