The 2016 World Hockey Championships will take place from May 5th through the 21st. Despite the Habs missing the postseason, only three players suited up for their respective countries. Here is how each one fared.
There were a lot of surprises for the Habs this season, both of the positive and negative variety. Having had time to reflect on the whole year, our writers offer up their thoughts on the biggest surprises of 2016-17.
With several prospects getting ousted early in the postseason, there aren’t many players to choose from in our April 3 Stars but several stood out amongst the rest.
After reports surfaced last week that the Habs were set to sign Czech blueliner Jakub Jerabek, the team made it official on Monday, signing him to a one year, entry level contract. The deal will carry a cap hit of $925,000.
The IceCaps didn’t go down easily but they did drop the final two games of their first round series against Syracuse to end their postseason in a hurry. Things are a bit better for Zach Fucale and company at the ECHL level though after splitting the first two matchups of their second round series versus Manchester.
The Habs added to their prospect pool on Friday, announcing the signing of right winger Antoine Waked to a three year, entry level contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Although the Habs are out of the playoffs, there was no shortage of news coming out of Montreal on Wednesday. Here’s a look at the news and notes of the day.
The postseason came to an end with a resounding thud for the Habs, who dropped three straight to finish their season on a very frustrating note. In St. John’s, the IceCaps managed a split in their first two games but Game Two certainly ended on a frustrating note for them as well.
The Habs started off their elimination game on Saturday night with a bang but fell apart after the opening 20 minutes to fall 3-1 to the Rangers, ending the series in six games.
