HabsWorld.net --

With individual awards now done with, the NHL revealed its end-of-season teams on Friday.  A pair of Habs made the All-Rookie Team while another landed on the Second All-Star Team.  The teams were voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.

The duo who made the All-Rookie Team shouldn’t come as much surprise.  Ivan Demidov, who finished second in Calder Trophy balloting, finished with the most votes overall with 195, one ahead of Calder winner Matthew Schaefer.  (This is one of those voting oddities that just doesn’t make sense; Demidov was on every ballot but somehow, someone didn’t put Schaefer when he was the unanimous pick for the Calder.)  The other is Jakub Dobes, who received 151 votes to Jesper Wallstedt’s 44.

Oliver Kapanen finished 11th overall in Calder voting so it shouldn’t come as much surprise that he didn’t land one of the three forward spots.  He finished eighth among forwards, being picked on six ballots overall.

The full All-Rookie Team is as follows:

Forwards: Ivan Demidov, Beckett Sennecke, Jimmy Snuggerud
Defence:
Matthew Schaefer, Alexander Nikishin
Goalie: Jakub Dobes

Meanwhile, Cole Caufield received his first-ever end-of-season All-Star nod, making it on the second team as the left winger.  In another one of those voting oddities, he also finished fifth among right wingers, with 22 voters putting him on that side of the ballot.  By comparison, 158 had him on the left side, 80 in first, 43 in second, and 35 in third.  Even if those who voted him as a right winger put those votes in on the left side, he still would have finished in second place behind Jason Robertson.

Meanwhile, Nick Suzuki finished in fourth place among centres, well behind Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon.  He had 16 third-place selections from the writers.  Lane Hutson, meanwhile, was fifth among blueliners, meaning he just missed out since the top four get slotted on the teams.  Hutson was on 151 ballots, yielding 16 first-place votes, 50 second-place selections, and 85 third-place placements.

2nd Star:
