The final week of the season for the Habs has come and gone with the team picking up a single win while dropping to fourth last in the standings. Meanwhile, in Laval, it continues to be all bad news as they now have hit the basement of the AHL standings with just one week left.
As a result of the Kings clinching the playoffs on Wednesday night, the Habs have acquired their fourth-round pick in June’s draft back from Los Angeles.
The countdown to golf season continued last week for both the Habs and Laval. The Canadiens picked up one win while snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in another while what’s left of the Rocket continue to flounder as they get closer and closer to the basement in the AHL standings.
The Habs were looking to play spoiler against the Devils on Sunday night. While they got the lead, they weren’t able to hold on the rest of the way as they eventually fell 2-1.
Michael McCarron’s development hasn’t gone as well as anyone would have hoped for. The Habs have been guilty of bringing him up at inopportune times, a trend that has continued with his most recent recall earlier this month.
Carey Price’s return to the lineup didn’t do anything towards stopping Montreal’s struggles as they dropped three of four games. Things were even worse in Laval as they lost all three games as they too were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
The Habs added to their prospect pool late on Saturday, inking free agent forward Hayden Verbeek to a three-year, entry-level contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Montreal’s struggles continued throughout the third quarter although a handful of forwards managed to earn good grades in the next instalment of our report cards.
The Habs had some good performances mixed in with some ugly ones this past week as they continue to play out the stretch. In Laval, it was mostly the latter as the nightmarish second half of their season continues.
