We’ve now reached the top five in our prospect rankings series. There aren’t too many surprises in this group as our writers felt Montreal’s top group was pretty well established heading into the season.
January wasn’t a great month for Laval but a handful of players played quite well. As for Montreal’s other prospects, several CHL players led the way.
Monday’s acquisition of Nate Thompson meant that another roster spot needed to be opened up. Michael Chaput is the one losing his spot on the roster after clearing waivers on Wednesday.
Two weeks ago, Laval had strong goaltending but couldn’t score. Last week, they were able to light the lamp a few times but the goaltending let the team down in a pair of losses.
Kenny Agostino’s time with the Canadiens has come to an end. After being placed on waivers on Sunday, he was claimed by New Jersey on Monday.
Fresh off a decent showing on Super Bowl weekend, the Habs had another strong week as they collected five of a possible six points to wrap up their lengthy home stand.
The Habs went into play on Saturday night looking to sweep the week as they took on Toronto. While they had the lead a couple of times, they weren’t able to make it stick as they fell 4-3 in overtime.
The Habs have brought back a familiar face, acquiring winger Dale Weise along with defenceman Christian Folin from Philadelphia. Heading the other way are blueliner David Schlemko and centre Byron Froese.
Just when Michael McCarron was starting to get going in the minors, he suffered an upper-body injury. It turns out that it’s a shoulder issue, one that will cost him the rest of the season after he underwent shoulder surgery on Wednesday.
