HabsWorld.net --

The Habs took care of another pending free agent on Wednesday, this time in the front office as the team announced that John Sedgwick has signed a three-year contract extension.

While his official title is Vice President of Hockey Operations and Legal Affairs, Sedgwick is most known for being Montreal’s capologist.  The past few seasons, the Canadiens would shuffle waiver-exempt players back and forth to save a bit of money but they had to take that to another level this season.  With the team spending tight to the salary cap and the introduction of the taxi squad, there were only a handful of days all season long that the Habs didn’t make some sort of transaction.  He’s also heavily involved in contract negotiations.

While it’s not expected that there will be taxi squads again next season, Montreal will likely be tight to the Upper Limit of the cap again.  They also have 22 players on expiring contracts.  That means Sedgwick will be in for yet another busy year.
