After hiring Joel Bouchard as the new head coach in Laval last week, the Rocket now has one of their assistant coaches in place as Daniel Jacob joined the team on Wednesday.
Not surprisingly, Bouchard has opted to go with someone he’s familiar with. Jacob served as one of Bouchard’s assistant coaches with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL for the past four seasons and the team made the league finals in each of the last two. He also served as an assistant with Canada’s Ivan Hlinka tournament entry this season.
Jacob also has worked as an assistant with McGill for four seasons before joining the Armada while spending time in that same role with one of Canada’s entries into the World Under-17 Championships in 2016-17 and Serbia’s World Junior entry at the Division III championships in 2007-08.
While the 37-year-old will fill one of the vacancies behind the bench, there is still another to be filled. In the press release announcing his hire, Bouchard suggested that it may be a little while before they name their next assistant; he noted that the search will continue in the coming weeks.
