The Habs released their list of players that will be taking part in the upcoming Rookie Tournament. There are several notable prospects participating but also quite a few invites which we’ll take a closer look at here.
The Canadiens have been participating in rookie tournaments for the past several years. It’s time for that practice to come to an end.
In a move that should come as a surprise to no one, the Habs have officially parted ways with defenceman Nikolas Koberstein after they failed to sign him by the August 15th deadline.
Many of Montreal’s opening night lineup projections have Ryan Poehling in there. While he’s certainly a promising prospect and has one great NHL game under his belt, I’m not convinced that starting with the Habs is the best thing for his development.
It wasn’t that long ago that Lukas Vejdemo was viewed as a prospect with some intrigue. However, he heads into next season in a situation where he could tumble down the depth chart quickly if he doesn’t start strong.
It won’t take until the eve of training camp for Michael McCarron to be signed for the upcoming season as the Habs announced that they have re-signed him to a one-year, two-way contract.
I’ve long been of the belief that an AHL team can’t have too much depth at one position. Laval is going to be putting that to the test next season as they are extremely deep between the pipes.
July 15th represented the deadline for qualifying offers to be accepted before they expired and for the second straight year, it came and went without Michael McCarron signing a new contract.
It takes several years to really get a feel for a draft class. With that in mind, let’s look back at Montreal’s 2014 draft class, one that had a bit of promise but hasn’t amounted to much just yet.
