We’ve finally reached the top group of our annual prospect rankings series. It’s a group that features a pair of players that should have no trouble establishing themselves in the NHL plus some others whose upside could make them impact players down the road.
For most of the season, Laval has found a way to battle through adversity and pick up some wins. It’s why they’re sitting as high as they are in the division. This wasn’t one of those weeks as instead, they had a couple of tough outings as the offence struggled considerably.
We’ve reached the top ten in this year’s prospect rankings. It’s a group that features five players that all have legitimate NHL upside although they all have some level of uncertainty as to whether or not they can reach their ceiling.
While they dropped their last game on Monday, Laval still managed to pick up five points on the road recently as they creep closer to clinching their first-ever playoff berth although some work still needs to be done on that front.
The month of March saw several players in Laval have strong months offensively. Meanwhile, it was a quieter month for some of their other prospects but a handful really stood out to earn one of our three stars.
With a very tight battle for playoff positioning in the North Division, Laval had a chance to really strengthen their chances with four divisional games. They did exactly that, winning all four of them to stay in second place.
In somewhat of a surprising move, recently-acquired prospect forward Ty Smilanic has decided to change schools as he has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Western Canada wasn’t kind to Laval as they were only able to pick up a single win in four games. They did, however, get some help with other teams losing, allowing them to narrowly hold onto second place in the North Division for now.
The Habs have signed the prospect they acquired back in February in the Tyler Toffoli trade as they announced on Monday that they’ve inked Emil Heineman to a three-year, entry-level contract.
