Jeff Petry scored two on great shots and that was the difference on Wednesday night as the Habs managed to beat the Rangers who were sitting many of their top regulars in preparation for the postseason.
The losing streak is now approaching a season-long mark as Montreal had some defensive struggles over the past seven days. However, they also ‘gained’ ground at one end of the standings, making for an interesting final week of the season.
After an absolutely beautiful tribute to the late Guy Lafleur, the Habs were unable to snap their losing skid as they dropped Sunday night’s contest by a 5-3 score to the visiting Boston Bruins.
Saturday’s game in Ottawa was a chippy affair early on while a two-minute stretch in the second period proved costly for the Habs as they allowed four goals over that timeframe en route to a 6-4 loss.
Thursday night was a strange game as both teams could gain more by losing the contest. In the end, the Flyers were able to beat Carey Price a little too easily as they put up six goals, too much for the Habs to overcome as they loss 6-3 in what can only be described as a sloppy affair.
After being doubled up in a loss on Saturday, the Habs were back in action on Tuesday as they hosted the Wild. They put up a better effort but the offensive production went quiet again as Minnesota skated away with the 2-0 victory.
The Habs will be without Michael Pezzetta for their games on Tuesday and Thursday as the Department of Player Safety announced that they’ve handed the winger a two-game suspension for an illegal check to the head on Washington winger T.J. Oshie.
The Habs had a successful week when it came to their draft pick situation this summer but it came on the hands of some tough losses as they extended their losing streak to five straight games.
