After an intrasquad scrimmage on Tuesday, Canada returned to exhibition play against the United States. Avenging a loss earlier in the week, Team Canada defeated the US 3-1.

On Thursday, GM Bob Gainey announced the signing of depth defenceman Jean-Phillipe Cote to a 2 year contract. As per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed. The 22 year old rearguard stands at 6’2, and 213 pounds.

Zednik signs multi-year deal

On Wednesday, Canadiens GM Bob Gainey announced the signing of W Richard Zednik to a 3 year contract, avoiding salary arbitration. The deal is worth $7.3 million dollars. He will make $2.3 M this season, $2.4 M next season, and $2.6 M in 2006-07.
