With the season now over, we now know which prospects will see their contract ‘slide’ a year. Here are the five players who, despite being under contract in 2014-15, won’t see their deals officially start until 2015-16 and how much their salary cap hit will drop by as a result.
The Habs were hoping to extend their second round series to seven games on Tuesday night but instead put forth a very poor effort. The Lightning took full advantage, defeating Montreal 4-1 to end their season.
After dropping the third game of the series, the Habs have fought their way back into their second round matchup against Tampa Bay, winning two straight to close the deficit to 3-2.
The top players didn’t score but Montreal’s supporting cast got the job done in Game 5 as a late P-A Parenteau goal was the difference maker in a 2-1 victory for the home side.
Given how rocky his time with the Hamilton Bulldogs was, it should come as no surprise that Magnus Nygren has decided to go back to playing in Sweden.
There will be no brooms for the Tampa Bay Lightning as the Montreal Canadiens shelled Bishop and co. 6-2 on Thursday night, forcing a fifth game at the Bell Centre.
The Habs were looking to avoid being pushed to the brink of elimination on Wednesday night. However, Tyler Johnson had other plans as a last second goal gave the Lightning a 2-1 win and a commanding 3-0 series lead.
The second round has not got off to the start that the Habs would have liked. They lost both games at home to Tampa Bay, ceding home ice advantage while largely embarrassing themselves in the second game to make matters worse. Now, they must travel to Tampa to try to stay alive.
The Habs were looking to even up their second round series on Sunday night. Unfortunately, indiscipline got the best of them as the Lightning collected four power play goals en route to a 6-2 victory.
