The Habs have made a change behind the bench as they announced on Tuesday afternoon that they’ve fired head coach Michel Therrien and have hired Claude Julien as their new bench boss.
The Habs were looking to head into the bye on a positive note and pretty much failed miserably at doing so. Things were better in St. John’s though as they picked up two road wins against the top two teams in the AHL.
During the month of January the Canadiens were powered by their top line in the absence of the stellar goaltending we are all used to. This wasn’t lost on HabsWorld readers as they voted all three members to the three stars for the month.
While both the Habs and IceCaps started their week off well, it went downhill from there. Montreal lost three straight to end the week while struggling to score while St. John’s dropped a pair over the weekend.
Stellar goaltending wasn’t enough for the Habs to come out with a win in the back half of their set of weekend matinees as they dropped a 1-0 decision to the Oilers in a shootout.
Montreal kicked off their annual Super Bowl weekend double matinee on Saturday with a game against the Capitals. Despite a strong finish at the end, they weren’t able to take home the victory and lost 3-2.

While the Habs were successful in sending Mark Barberio through waivers back in training camp, they weren’t able to do so this time as Colorado claimed him on Thursday.
