Montreal got off to a slow start on Thursday night against Columbus but they were able to bounce back in the second half of the game, eventually forcing overtime where Cole Caufield potted the winner in a 4-3 victory.
On the back half of a back-to-back set, the Habs came out relatively strong on Tuesday night against New Jersey but faded as the game went on, allowing the Devils to pick up the 5-2 victory.
Only one team showed up to play at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night and it wasn’t the Habs. The end result was a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Wild; what an ugly loss that was!
Wednesday’s season-opener in Toronto featured huge momentum shifts needed a shootout to decide the winner. This is really great news for the Habs’ even strength play considering they made it that far while losing the special teams battle although they ultimately fell 6-5.
In a game that was hard to watch due to the complete lack of cohesiveness on both sides of the puck, the Habs made it interesting in the final minutes before ultimately coming up short in a 2-1 loss.
Successful teams often have proven track records of finding quality NHL talent after the first round. There will be some quality players still left on the board after Wednesday’s first round and Montreal should have a shot at getting a couple from this group.
With a pick late in the first round and early in the second round, the Habs could have an opportunity to nab two players from this group of our 2023 draft rankings.
With the 2023 NHL Entry Draft almost upon us, it’s time for a final update on our midseason rankings. We begin with the players ranked from 1st overall to 16th.
Ryan Leonard has played his way into top-ten consideration in the upcoming draft at the very least. Depending on who is still on the board when the Habs are picking overall, there’s a chance that he could be an option at the fifth selection.
