2023 HabsWorld Draft Pool

Welcome to HabsWorld’s annual draft pool. The Habs are slated to have the fifth-overall pick along with the 31st selection. Make your guess as to who the Canadiens will select as well as who the rest of the league will pick in the first round on Wednesday night.

Habs re-sign Sean Monahan

It had been previously reported that there was mutual interest in an extension between the Canadiens and pending UFA centre Sean Monahan.  In the end, they were able to work out an agreement as Montreal announced that they’ve re-signed Monahan to a one-year contract.

The Habs had several junior-aged players under contract this past season, bringing the oft-mentioned ‘slide rule’ into play. In the end, five of the six players that had this potential outcome did see their deals slide and thus, their cap hit changing. Here is a breakdown of those changes.

Qualify or Cut: Denis Gurianov

When the Habs acquired Denis Gurianov at the trade deadline, the hope was that he’d find another level and potentially play his way into Montreal’s future plans.  But the results were mixed and as a result, it’s far from a guarantee that Montreal will qualify him later this month.

Habs Re-Sign Cole Caufield

The Canadiens made it known that they wanted to sign Cole Caufield to a long-term contract and they were able to do just that on Monday, announcing that they’ve signed the winger to an eight-year contract extension.  He was slated to become a restricted free agent next month.
