The week started off well for Laval with a win against the top team in the AHL but the momentum was quickly subsided with a pair of disappointing losses to Toronto.
The Habs had a three-in-four set this past week and while they didn’t play all that poorly in any of them, they ultimately came up short in all three, failing to record a point while extending their losing streak to five straight.
Montreal made a pair of roster moves before their game tonight in Pittsburgh. First, they claimed centre Colin White off waivers from the Penguins. Brandon Gignac was placed on waivers in a corresponding move.
The Habs looked to kick off their week on a winning note as they hosted Buffalo on Wednesday night. It was a chippy affair and while Montreal led for a good chunk of the game, they came up a goal short as the Sabres won 3-2.
Despite his reputation as a quality veteran, the contract and mediocre performance from Jake Allen this season stand as possible barriers to him being traded by the March 8th deadline. There is also another factor that will make a trade harder, one that is entirely out of his control.
A Laval roster which has certainly been thinned out lately had a tough three-in-three stretch last week. They managed to at least keep afloat in the playoff chase as they picked up three of a possible six points on the road.
The Habs kicked off the week with an impressive performance but they weren’t able to sustain that momentum, dropping a pair of games to Metropolitan Division opponents.
The turning of the calendar to 2024 saw some of Montreal’s prospects and farmhands find new gears at the offensive end. Those performances helped them earn a spot in our monthly three stars.
After a game to forget on Sunday, the Habs were back in action on Tuesday as they hosted Anaheim. This was a game to remember for the Canadiens with a couple of career firsts as they skated to a 5-0 victory.
