Last week was a weird one for Laval, featuring a crazy finish against Toronto for one reason and two games later, a crazy finish against Rochester for a completely different reason.
After a tough road trip out West, the Habs returned home and began a five-game homestand on Tuesday night against Detroit. They put forth arguably their most complete effort of the season as they picked up a 3-0 victory.
The West Coast road trips in the United States haven’t been too kind to the Habs over the years. As it turns out, this season is no exception as the Habs only managed to pick up a single victory in their four games.
The Habs didn’t have Cedric Paquette for most of Sunday’s game after he was ejected in the first for a hit on Anaheim’s Trevor Zegras. They’ll also miss him for the next two games after he was suspended by the league on Monday.
The Habs have decided to get Cole Caufield out of the spotlight for a little bit as they announced on Monday that they’ve sent the rookie to Laval. Taking his place on the roster is Michael Pezzetta who was recalled from the Rocket.
After a disheartening loss in Los Angeles on Saturday, the Habs were back at it on Sunday afternoon in Anaheim. They were able to keep it tied heading into the third but ultimately fell 4-2, giving them their lowest point total through 10 games since the 1941-42 season.
With the Habs off to an atrocious start to their 2021-22 season, the blame game is understandably underway. Are their early struggles more due to poor coaching or players simply underachieving?
Laval’s second week of the season ended on a tough note but all in all, they had a good week as they picked up four points despite missing two of their top forwards.
The week certainly didn’t get off to a good start for the Habs but they were at least able to pick up a win at the end, giving them a small positive to build on as they head out for their first West Coast road trip of the season.
