Name: Mike Komisarek
Hometown: Islip Terrace, NY
Acquired: 2001 NHL Draft, 1st round (7th)
Size and overall strength stick out right away. Very good skater for such a
big guy. Has a cannon for a shot, that is hard, low, on net, and easy to deflect
in. Plays a physical game, but doesn’t go looking for the big hit, has a high
level of maturity, to go with a solid work ethic and is a quick learner.
Lack of hockey experience shows in his positional play. Needs to make quicker
reads on the play, and must learn to use his angles better, as he can be beaten
to the outside by speedy forwards. At times, not physical enough.

Canadiens Mid-season Top 2- Mike Komisarek who has been the
Habs #1 prospect for sometime now, has been moved off the prospect list and into
the graduated section, as he is now seeing time in the NHL.
November 2003 – As many were disappointed in seeing the big
blueliner sent back to the AHL, Komisarek has been one of the teams more
physical players, and one of it’s better defensemen. Plays a good bit on all
situations, but what’s impressive is that he is playing a more physical game,
and is using his body more effectively. Still has some trouble reading the plays
and reacting quickly, but hopefully will continue to improve his defensive game.
October 2003 – Not many expected Komisarek to be back in the
AHL after such an impressive performance as a rookie. But hopefully Komisarek
works on some things while he’s done here, as this is the time for him to
reflect and improve upon himself without the pressure of NHL hockey. So far he
has picked up where he left off, as one of the top defensemen on the team, and
has been taking the body more so this year then last.
