- For the second straight year, David Desharnais has had two separate goalless streaks of at least ten games.
More signings were announced by the Habs late Friday morning, they just weren't of the on-ice variety. The club revealed via its Twitter account that Trevor Timmins has received a contract extension, the length of which was not disclosed. Marc Bergevin also added a pair of former NHL'ers to his scouting staff, former Hab Donald Audette as well as Mark Mowers.
Timmins, who has retained his title of Director of Player Procurement and Development despite Martin Lapointe being named Director of Player Development earlier this offseason, has spent 20 years working in the NHL, the last 11 of which have been with Montreal. Prior to joining the Habs as a hiring of former GM Andre Savard, he had worked in Ottawa where he held a variety of positions including Scouting Coordinator, Director of Hockey Operations, and Strength & Conditioning Coach. While with the Habs, Timmins has been responsible for the clubs' Amateur Scouting department.
Audette played parts of three seasons with Montreal after being acquired from Dallas in the 2001-02 season. His first year with the Habs was cut short after requiring life-saving surgery to repair tendon damage in his forearm from an injury suffered shortly after being acquired. He played a total of 102 games in Montreal (21 goals and 26 assists) before being bought out of his contract. He will be scouting in the QMJHL.
Mowers played a total of 278 games in the NHL with Nashville, Detroit, Boston, and Anaheim before finishing his playing career in Switzerland before serving as an intermission analyst on NESN for Boston games. The 38 year old will be scouting the Eastern Conference.
Friday's additions bring the number of new scouts hired by Montreal this offseason to five. Audette and Mowers join Bobby Kinsella (Midwest USA - Amateur), Alain Backus (British Columbia - Amateur), and Ethan Moreau (Western Conference - NHL) as newcomers to the scouting department.
