Habs re-sign Sven Andrighetto to a one year deal

On Saturday morning, the Habs re-signed the first of many RFA’s they have this offseason, inking Sven Andrighetto to a one year contract.  TVA Sports’ Renaud Lavoie reports it’s a one-way deal worth $650,000.

Andrighetto split the 2015-16 season between the Canadiens and their AHL affiliate in St. John’s.  With the IceCaps, he played in 26 games, collecting 10 goals and 13 assists with 22 PIMS and a +6 rating.  He was recalled to the big club for good on January 30th.

With Montreal, Andrighetto played in 44 games, picking up seven goals and ten helpers along with 6 PIMS and a +1 rating.  He spent most of the year in a 2nd/3rd line role, averaging a career best 14:07 per game.  In his NHL career, he has played in a total of 56 regular season games, collecting 20 points (9-11-20).

Andrighetto is expected to be with the Canadiens on a full-time basis in 2016-17 as he now must pass through waivers in order to return to the minors.  His qualifying offer was for a one year, two-way deal worth $632,500 in the NHL so he got a little bit more than was required . He becomes the 39th player under contract to the Habs for 2016-17 out of the limit of 50 though two of those players are eligible to return to junior and have their deals slide another year.
