Cammalleri suspended for one game

On Monday, the NHL announced that winger Mike Cammalleri has been suspended
for one game, Thursday’s regular season opening contest against Toronto.
The incident leading to the suspension came back on Saturday, when Cammalleri
slashed Islanders’ rookie Nino Niederreiter in the back of a leg, resulting in a
five minute penalty and game misconduct.

The second incident in question, a stick aimed towards Niederreiter’s head
was not considered to be part of the suspension.  Here’s a replay of what led to
the suspension:

However, the Habs (and Cammalleri) were intimating that his actions were in
direct response to an attempted blindside hit by the New York rookie earlier
that shift.  The replay of that incident:

Cammalleri will forfeit one day’s salary which equates to $32,258.06.
The Habs will be able to deduct this amount from their team salary cap
calculation.  He will be eligible to return to Montreal’s lineup Saturday
in Pittsburgh. The Habs will be allowed to keep a player up (Ryan White perhaps?) to take Cammalleri’s spot on the roster until then if they so desire.
