Habs sign Klubertanz to a 1 year deal

On Wednesday, the Habs announced the signing of American born defenceman Kyle
Klubertanz to a 1 year entry level contract reportedly worth $550,000 at the NHL
level.  Klubertanz was originally a 3rd round pick of the Ducks back in the
2004 draft, 74th overall.  He spent last season with Djurgarden of the SEL
where he was the team’s highest scoring blueliner and 5th overall in the league.

Klubertanz was drafted out of Green Bay of the USHL where he spent 2 seasons
before moving on to play for 4 years at the University of Wisconsin, the last of
which was with former prospect Ryan McDonagh and current C prospect Patrick
Johnson.  He made his AHL debut in 2007-08 playing 6 games for the Portland
Pirates (5 regular season and 1 playoff game) with 0 points and 2 PIMS.

Surprisingly, the following year, he jumped to the Finnish league playing for
TPS Turku where he recorded just 12 points in 52 games but tied for the team
lead in playoff goals with 3 in 8 games.   He picked up 31 points this
past season with Djurgarden which tied him for 2nd overall in team scoring.
