Bulldogs Continue to Struggle

Bulldogs This Week 16

Bulldogs Fall Below .500:

Over the course of the previous week, the Bulldogs record has fallen to 19-20-5-4, an extremely disappointing record for one of last year’s top AHL teams. Injuries to the defensive corps have hurt the team, as forwards such an Ben Carpantier have been forced into defensive roles at times. The scoring touch of Alexander Perezhogin is also missed, but scoring has not been the major problem. Goaltenders Dan Ellis and Yann Danis have struggled at times this season, as this is the first time either has played a full AHL season.

By the Numbers:

Tomas Plekanec has been on fire the last couple of weeks, as he has recorded at least one point in six of the team’s last seven games…Yann Danis recorded his 3rd shutout of the season against the Syracuse Crunch. Danis stopped all 36 shots he faced in the Bulldogs victory.

Rookie Watch:

Corey Locke currently stands in 6th place among AHL rookies in terms of points. He is 4th among rookies in goals and +/-. Perhaps most impressively, Locke leads the Bulldogs in shooting percentage, netting goals on 18.8% of his shots. These are excellent numbers for a rookie playing under Doug Jarvis, who is well known for being tough on rookies.

Shootout Stats:

During the past week, the Dogs did not participate in any shootouts. On the season, they have 6 goals on 29 chances (21%).

Goalie Zone:

Canadiens prospect Yann Danis had another up and down week. Danis began the week by getting pulled halfway through the first period against Rochester, after giving up 3 goals on just 9 shots.. He bounced back strong in a shutout against Syracuse just two days later. Danis has a 13-10-4-3 record on the year, with a 2.30 GAA and .925 save percentage. Dallas prospect Dan Ellis played well in relief of Yann Danis against Rochester, but struggled in his second game against the Americans, giving up 3 goals. On the season, Ellis has a 6-15-0-1 record on the year, with a 2.63 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
