Bulldogs This Week (Week 8)

Note: The Bulldogs This Week now features an extended ECHL report, found below the Weekly Bulldogs Stat Pack.

The Bulldogs now have something to build on, they recorded points in both games played this week.  On Friday, a 3rd period goal forced overtime vs Chicago, but the Wolves managed to beat Yann Danis in the extra frame, as Hamilton fell 2-1.  The following afternoon (after traveling from Hamilton to Cleveland), the offence exploded for 4 unanswered goals, spanning the 2nd and 3rd periods, as Hamilton defeated the Barons 4-1.  It was a balanced attack in that game, as 3 lines contributed on the scoresheet.

Bad news on the injury front:

The Bulldogs were figuring to have D Mike Komisarek back in the lineup in the next couple of weeks, but that’s no longer the case.  Komisarek underwent surgery this week, as his hip was not recovering as it was supposed to.  The team has set no timetable for his return, and he is listed as out indefinitely.  Meanwhile, W Jonathan Ferland has been diagnosed with a mild concussion, and currently is listed as day-to-day.

Shasby sent South:

As many anticipated, D Matt Shasby was assigned to Long Beach (ECHL) this week to make room for Jean-Phillipe Cote, who made his season debut last week.  The defence appears to be set now, as 7 remain on the active roster, with Mike Komisarek’s return unknown.

Game notes:

Hamilton’s win on Saturday was the first AHL win of G Dan Ellis’ career.  Prior to the game, he had an 0-9 record … D Phillipe Plante was a healthy scratch for both games this week, as D Andrew Archer appears to have taken his spot in the lineup … Enforcer Raitis Ivanans was scratched on Saturday, despite the bad blood between the Barons and Bulldogs.  This was only the 2nd time he has been scratched all season.

By the Numbers:

Corey Locke’s assist on Saturday was his first point in the last 9 games … D Andrew Archer and W Raitis Ivanans are both scoreless in 20 and 22 games respectively … J-P Cote’s assist Saturday was his first point of the season in 3 games.  Cote, who had the best +/- last season, is already tied for 3rd on the team in that respect.

Goalie Zone:

Both goalies played well this week; Yann Danis made 32 saves in the 2-1 OT loss to Chicago, while Dan Ellis made 28/29 saves in his first career AHL win on Saturday.  On the season, Danis is 7-7-1 with a 2.39 GAA and .920 save percentage, while Ellis is 1-9 with a 3.05 GAA and .900 SV%.

The Infirmary:

D Mike Komisarek (recent hip surgery), out indefinitely
W Jonathan Ferland (concussion), out day-to-day
C Antti Miettinen (shoulder), out 10-12 weeks
C Benoit Dusablon (undisclosed), out indefinitely

If anything, the Long Beach Ice Dogs are consistent.  They have been either 1 or 2 games above .500 all season long.  This week, they failed to record a win, but still had a pair of “ties” (1 OT loss, 1 shootout loss) plus a loss, giving them a 9-8-2 record on the season, which puts them 5th in their division.  However, they are winless in their last 6 games.
