THIRD

We started off slow, and if my memory serves me correctly had not registered a shot through ten minutes of the third period. However, luck finally struck us in the offensive zone, as Richard Zednik buried his second of the series and first of the night.

1-0 Montreal.

Richard Zednik (2) – Alex Kovalev, Saku Koivu

Saku Koivu would win the draw, and we would soon after see Alex Kovalev carry the puck and drive hard around the net. After what seemed like an eternity, the puck popped out and Richard Zednik threw it into the top right corner. At last, the Habs had a lead and something to build on.

The Bruins would continue to press, and Andrew Raycroft made a remarkable save on Yanic Perreault; one that saved his team’s chances at the W.

However, with the goalie pulled, Kovalev was able to push the puck out of the zone using his stick, and not long after Saku Koivu flipped it to the remarkable Russian.

2-0 Montreal.

Richard Zednik 2 (3) – Alex Kovalev, Saku Koivu

Kovalev, already with one point on the night, picked up his second assist of the game when he dished an unselfish pass to Richard Zednik, who found the back of the net.

SECOND

Through forty minutes, things are tight. If you are a fan of this team, than don’t you say this isn’t killing you.

With things tied up at this point, any little bounces could make a world of a difference.

The Habs had their second powerplay of the evening and had some good chances, but when push came to shove they couldn’t bury ’em.

Both Richard Zednik and Alex Kovalev came close, too, but in the end could not get the puck to where it needs to be. Mike Ribeiro and Michael Ryder, joined by a flying Yanic Perreault on the second line, were working hard and had their oppurtunities.

On the backend, Mike Komisarek has been the victim of many hits but has shown the qualities of a warrior. And, Craig Rivet and Andrei Markov have played well, too.

The third trio, anchored by Jim Dowd, has played magnificently. The offence is not there, but they are working and the true character is shining through.

The team’s looked tense and both squads are very into the game, as evidenced by numerous post-whistle scrums and plenty of hard hits.

All in all, with Jose standing tall, and Raycroft hanging in there, we’re in for a dandy third.

GO HABS GO.

FIRST PERIOD

After the first period, the teams are deadlocked in a 0-0 draw. Both teams have had their chances, but the Bruins have carried the play and head into the second period on the powerplay. Posts have been hit and checks have been thrown, but there is still plenty of game left to be played.

A wild scrum late in the period saw Theodore shine, and not long after the puck was cleared, a mix-up between Mike Knuble and Steve Begin saw the latter throw a slash. Knuble did his best to draw the call and was successful.

Jose Theodore has been stellar so far, as has Andrew Raycroft. Mike Ribeiro was robbed on the door step, and Sergei Samsonov came close in the opening minute, before the Bruins would go on to ring one off of the post from in tight later in the frame.

The Habs failed to convert on a powerplay early on, something they will hope to accomplish later in the match. There have been no roster changes for Montreal, as Stephane Quintal and Jason Ward remain on the outs. For now, it’s back to the game.
