HabsWorld.net --

After acquiring him earlier this month, the Habs have signed winger Sasha Pastujov to a one-year, two-way contract, per a team announcement on Thursday.  Financial terms were not immediately disclosed.

Montreal acquired the 23-year-old from Anaheim in exchange for Sean Farrell in another swap of change-of-scenery players.  The Ducks drafted Pastujov 66th overall back in 2021 but he has yet to make his NHL debut.

That said, his offensive production in the minors has been promising.  Pastujov led AHL San Diego in scoring last season, putting up 21 goals and 36 assists in 71 games.  Over his first three professional seasons, he has 48 tallies and 77 helpers in 160 contests.

Pastujov is waiver-eligible for the first time this coming season so he will need to pass through unclaimed before he could be assigned to Laval.  It stands to reason that he’ll be given a chance to make Montreal’s roster in training camp, especially since it appears there is one spot available following the departures of Patrik Laine, Brendan Gallagher, and Joe Veleno.

That said, the likeliest outcome is that he’s sent down to the Rocket, where he projects to be a top-six forward for Daniel Jacob’s new-look squad.  From there, a good showing could give Pastujov a chance at making his NHL debut at some point in the 2026-27 season.
