Although we’re still the better part of a month away from NHL free agency opening up, Laval added a pair of players on Tuesday, inking Pascal Aquin and Tobie Bisson to one-year, two-way contracts.

Aquin has spent the majority of the last two seasons in the ECHL while being part of Buffalo’s system.  The 23-year-old had 59 points in 68 games with Cincinnati in his first pro campaign although that dipped to just 26 in 43 ECHL games this season.  However, he got into 16 games with AHL Rochester, picking up three goals and two assists.

As for Bisson, he also was in Buffalo’s system the last two seasons although he played exclusively in Cincinnati in 2019-20.  This year, the 23-year-old had a respectable 22 points in 62 games.  He only had that many points in one of his four QMJHL seasons and it just so happened to come under Laval head coach Joel Bouchard during his time with Blainville-Boisbriand.

Both players aren’t likely to contend for a full-time spot with the Rocket whenever training camps open up.  Instead, they’ll probably be ticketed for the ECHL once again.  Montreal still doesn’t have their own affiliate (they’re still not officially affiliated with Trois-Rivieres and they’re not starting play in 2020-21 anyway) but if they reach another working agreement with Maine as they’ve done the past two seasons, Aquin and Bisson should suit up there when the puck drops on next season.
