HW Updates, by Dan Linn

2003-2004 Season Review – Ferland was able to earn a spot
with Hamilton, even though he could have played another season in the QMJHL, it
was clear that Ferland could keep up with the faster, stronger players of the
AHL. Although his offensive game wasn’t as flashy as the duo of Higgins and
Perezhogin, Ferland was able to play in seventy games this year, and brought a
solid physical presence to the third line. Next year Ferland should be looked to
play more of an offensive role with the team, as he works well in the corners
and drives to the net hard.

Canadiens Mid-season Top 20 – 15. Jonathan Ferland- RW.
(11th) Ferland drops a few spots, but not because of his play, but
due to other prospects having so much success this season. Playing in his first
pro season, Ferland has shown he can handle the bigger stronger players of the
AHL, but scoring goals hasn’t been as easy for him, as coach Jarvis juggles his
lineup in order to make room for so many first year players. Expect Ferland to
have a much improved role on the Bulldogs next year, as he adapts to the AHL,
and improves his skating.

January 2004 – Has had some trouble producing on offense, as
the young rookie sees less ice time but has shown a strong work ethic and solid
physical game in the games he’s played.

December 2003 – Has not seen a lot of ice time, but when he
does, he plays a physical game in the corners, and drives to the net hard.
Points have been hard to come by lately for him, but as long as he continues to
work hard along the boards, drive to the net, and play a physical game, he will
get on the scoresheet more often as he posses some soft hands around the net.

November 2003 – RW, Has not seen a lot of ice time, but when
he does, he plays a physical game in the corners, and drives to the net. Is
starting to get more playing time, as he becomes more comfortable out there.
Playing on the 3rd and 4th lines, Ferland keeps it simple
and works hard every shift.

October 2003 – The physical winger has been taking the body,
and showing signs of improvement through each game. He has been getting a few
good chances on offense, but they haven’t been dropping for him yet. He has been
playing on the 3rd line, getting some decent ice time, as he is good
along the boards and in his own end.
