Strengths

Does a lot of things well.  Has decent size,
plays a physical game, can skate well, makes a good first pass, has an good low
shot from the point.  Can play in all situations, and uses his size
effectively.

Weaknesses

At times he goes for the big hit, leaving himself out
of position.  Also tends to leave his feet often, a risky play.  Has
shown improvement offensively, but still needs improvement.  Quicker reads,
and better positional play is needed as well

HW Updates, by Dan Linn

Canadiens Mid-season Top 20 – Francois Beauchemin and J-F
Damphousse
had to be removed from the prospect page, as they have played too
many AHL games, but can not be moved to graduated as they have not gotten the
call to the NHL.

January 2004 – Beauchemin is again the Dogs top
defensemen, as he has been solid all season, while cutting down on his trips to
the penalty box. Earlier in the season, Beauchemin was paired with Mike
Komisarek but with his call up, Ron Hainsey has taken his spot along side the
now AHL veteran. Both pairings have been the Dogs top pairing over their select
games, a testament to the steady play of Beauchemin, who is currently second on
the team in shots.

December 2003 – After a somewhat slow start to the
season, perhaps due to the let down of not getting a crack at the NHL, after
being one of the top defensemen in the AHL last year, Beauchemin has picked it
up lately in all areas of the ice. With Ron Hainsey being switched in place of
Mike Komisarek, the pair have played well together, while creating offense with
good outlet passes and several shots on goal. Beauchemin who was a minus player
early on this season, has turned it around, and is one of the top +/- prospects
now, while he’s also generating a lot of shots on a consistent basis.

November 2003 – After having a career year last
season, and being one of the top defensemen in the AHL, Beauchemin was looking
to crack the Habs roster. But an overcrowded blueline forced him back to
Hamilton, where he didn’t play his best hockey to start the season. With last
years partner Mike Komisarek sent down, they were reunited, and Beauchemin seems
to have picked up his game lately.
