The NHL Trade Deadline is now less than two weeks away which means it’s time to kick off our annual Trade Odds series. First up is a look at the IceCaps, beginning with the goalies and defencemen.
January was a good month for some Montreal prospects but a bad one for others. Many struggled in St. John’s but there were several other players in the lower levels that put forth some strong performances.
While St. John’s wasn’t in the win column as much in the second quarter of the season, there were still some forwards who put forth some strong performances. Those are highlighted as we conclude our grades.
The second quarter of St. John’s season had more ups than downs as the team really struggled with consistency. That was particularly an issue on the back end, which is where we start with our quarterly grades.
With most leagues being either at or near their midseason marks, it’s a good time to look back at our preseason prospect rankings. Some players have seen their stocks rise while others have dropped considerably.
The scoring struggles weren’t just limited to the Habs back in December as quite a few of their prospects struggled to produce as well. Nonetheless, there were a few players who were able to stand out amongst the rest.
The 2016 World Juniors are almost upon us and for the first time in many years, the Canadiens will not have any prospects representing them. However, quite a few current Habs and IceCaps have had a chance to suit up for their respective countries in the past with quite a bit of success.
Last month, the IceCaps passed the one quarter mark of their season as one of the top scoring teams in the AHL. Not surprisingly, with the attack as good as it was, there are plenty of high grades to go around for St. John’s forwards.
