Carey Price signs a 6 year deal(2012-07-02 17:45 posted by B. La Rose)

A repeated delay in a scheduled press conference led to much speculation on Monday afternoon.  In the end, the Habs announced that goaltender Carey Price has agreed to a six year extension with the team.  Financial terms of the contract are believed to be $39 million over the term for a cap hit of $6.5 million per year.

Price, the 5th overall pick of Montreal in 2005, has spent his entire career with the Canadiens.  Last year he played in 65 games, compiling a 26-28-11 record with a 2.43 GAA and a .916 SV%.  His career high in games played is 72 which he played in 2010-11.  The three time All-Star has nearly 300 games of NHL experience despite being just 24 years of age. This deal buys out his remaining RFA years plus the first four years of unrestricted free agency.

There was no discussion during Bergevin's media scrum with regards to the players that were signed on Sunday, those being Colby Armstrong, Francis Bouillion, Brandon Prust, Cedrick Desjardins, and the re-signing of Michael Blunden.  Bergevin did note that, contrary to P-A Parenteau's assertion, he had spoke with the wingers' agent a couple of times regarding a contract prior to him joining the Avalanche.

Price will speak to the media later Monday night via a conference call.
