- With a $5 M cap hit, Sergei Gonchar is one of the most expensive d-men in franchise history. The only ones higher are P.K. Subban ($9 M), Andrei Markov ($5.75 M), Mathieu Schneider ($5.75 M), and Roman Hamrlik ($5.5 M).
The following dates are the deadlines by which the Habs must sign a currently unsigned player or relinquish their rights without compensation:
June 30, 2015:
Andreas Engqvist (undrafted FA - Atlant Mytishchi, KHL)
August 15, 2016:
Colin Sullivan (7/198, 2011 - Miami, NCAA)*
June 1, 2017:
Artturi Lekhonen (2/36, 2013 - Frolunda, SHL)
Martin Reway (4/116, 2013 - Gatineau, QMJHL)^
June 30, 2018:
Joonas Nattinen (3/65, 2009 - MODO, SHL)
August 15, 2018:
Jake Evans (7/207, 2014 - Notre Dame, NCAA)
^ - Per Sec. 8.6 (b)(ii) of the CBA, the Habs have four years to sign Reway even though he was drafted out of the QMJHL which typically holds a two year signing limit. This is as a result of Reway opting to play for HC Sparta Praha beginning in 2014-15 instead of staying in major junior.
The following players have their rights held indefinitely by the Habs due to a lack of a transfer agreement:
Alexander Buturlin (2/39, 1999 - DNP in 2013-14)
Andrei Kruchinin (7/189, 1998 - Sokol Krasnoyarsk, VHL)
Konstantin Korneev (9/275, 2002 - Kazan, KHL)
Andrei Sidyakin (8/202, 1997 - last played in 2011-12)
Maxim Trunev (5/138, 2008 - Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, KHL)
* Player can drop out of college and become a UFA one year earlier than their listed date if they so desire as it will be their fourth year since being drafted.
