- The Habs may not have the highest payroll in the league, but they are leading all teams in the number of $5 million or higher-paid players in the NHL. No fewer than 6 players (Gomez, Cammalleri, Markov, Hamrlik, Gionta, and Plekanec) make at least $5M. The Rangers are second with 5 players in that category.

Game Preview : Montreal at Pittsburgh – November 25th, 2009
(2009-11-25 15:40 posted by Louis Moustakas) Preview: Montreal (12-11-1) at Pittsburgh (16-8-0) – November 25th 2009
After a character, come-from-behind effort against Columbus last night, Montreal will look to avenge the humiliating 6-1 defeat suffered at the hand of the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 28th. Carey Price will get his 7th straight start and his second in as many nights. He will need to be sharp once again, especially given the massive amount of injuries. Andrei Kostitsyn joins the long list of walking wounded and will miss tonight’s game against the defending Stanley Cup Champions. He was injured in last night’s game over Columbus when he blocked a Fedor Tyutin shot late in the contest. David Desharnais has been called up from Hamilton to take his place. Desharnais has been hot since his return from injury, collecting 10 points in 7 games. He will join Bulldogs teammates Ryan White, James Wyman, Tom Pyatt, Sergei Kostitsyn and Mathieu Carle, who are all currently with the big club. Many have already dubbed the team as the “Montreal Bulldogs” given the incredible rash of injuries and subsequent call ups.
As for the Penguins, the infirmary isn’t exactly empty either. Tyler Kennedy, Jay McKee, Chris Kunitz, Alex Gogligoski and Kris Letang are all out of the line-up. While the Penguins are tops in the east and have won two straight, they have looked mortal in their past 10 games, breaking even at 5-5-0. Marc-André Fleury, who is 13-7-0 with a .902 save percentage, is expected to face the Habs.
Obviously, with both teams having significantly depleted blue lines, each side will look to exploit weaknesses on the back end. However, clearly, with Malkin and Crosby, the Penguins have the advantage in that respect.
Puck drop is at 7:30 pm. The game is live on RDS and Fox Sports Pittsburgh. For those of you who, like myself, have work or other commitments, the shortened version of the game is on RDS at 11:30.
