Laval has finalized their coaching staff as they announced on Monday that Martin Laperriere has been named as an assistant coach on Jean-Francois Houle’s staff.

The 46-year-old never made it past the Canadian collegiate level as a defenceman but has plenty of coaching experience under his belt.  Since 2002-03, Laperriere has coached in the QMJHL for all but two seasons.  He had been with the Quebec Remparts for the last three seasons serving as an associate coach on Patrick Roy’s staff.  This will be his first opportunity coaching in the pros.

Laperriere joins Kelly Buchberger as assistant coaches for Houle on what will be an entirely new staff for the Rocket as they head into their fifth season of existence.  Alex Burrows started last season as an assistant with them before moving up to Montreal midseason while former head coach Joel Bouchard elected not to re-sign and instead took a job with AHL San Diego, bringing former assistant Daniel Jacob with him.

The new staff will also be dealing with a roster that has seen plenty of turnover this summer with half of their top eight scorers from last season moving on with newcomers such as Jean-Sebastien Dea, Danick Martel, and Louis Belpedio coming in to take prominent roles on next year’s roster.
