HabsWorld.net --

One of Laval’s top forwards will be sticking around as on Thursday, the Habs announced that they’ve re-signed winger Alex Belzile to a one-year, two-way contract extension.  The deal is worth the league minimum of $750,000 in the NHL, $250,000 in the AHL, and contains a guaranteed salary of $300,000, a $50,000 increase from this season.

Belzile returned to Montreal’s organization in 2018, signing an AHL contract with Laval.  (His first stint was with Hamilton in 2013.)  After being their top scorer, that landed him an NHL contract for the first time in 2019-20 where he made his NHL debut, suiting up for six games in the bubble.

This season, the 29-year-old was limited to just 17 games with the Rocket due to injury but still managed to put up four goals and ten assists along the way.  He also got his first taste of regular season action with the Canadiens, suiting up twice for the Habs down the stretch.

Belzile still doesn’t qualify for full veteran status in the minors (though he falls into the secondary category for players with 260-319 games of experience).  He should be a fixture in the lineup for the Rocket once again next season and should be under consideration for recalls whenever injuries arise.
