HabsWorld.net --

The Habs will be announcing their training camp roster on Monday but Max Domi will not be among that group.  Instead, the team announced Sunday that they will wait 7-10 days before deciding on whether or not Domi will rejoin the team.

The team released the following statement:

Considering Max’s health condition (Type 1 diabetes), both parties have agreed to take this responsible approach and to take this time to evaluate the ongoing situation, in order to make the best decision for Max’s health at the end of this period.

Those with diabetes are at a higher risk of developing complications as a result of the COVID-19 virus and the league and NHLPA agreed on a provision in the Return to Play protocols that could see doctors rule players in that situation ineligible.  (Luke Kunin of the Wild and Kaapo Kakko of the Rangers are others in that situation.)  Anyone ruled ineligible would have the right to request a second opinion but for now, it appears as if the Habs and Domi are in lockstep so far.

Domi’s absence would certainly be felt as he was one of Montreal’s top producers this season as he finished third in scoring with 44 points (17-27-44) in 71 games.  However, staying healthy is certainly the right priority to take at this point and both sides will wait to see how things go over the next week and a bit before making a final decision.

Formal playoff rosters have to be declared before entering the hub city.  That’s set to happen on July 26th which will represent the deadline for a final decision to be made.
