HabsWorld.net --

Following Saturday’s win against Ottawa, Montreal had three cuts still to make.  Two of those have come in the form of Charles Hudon and Charlie Lindgren who were placed on waivers on Sunday and cleared on Monday.

Going that route with Hudon was something that the Habs were hesitant to do a year ago and as a result, he found himself as a frequent healthy scratch and played in only 32 games where he had just three goals and two assists.  However, he also put together a 30-point season with the Canadiens back in 2017-18 and carries a cap hit of just $800,000 but it wasn’t enough to attract the interest of anyone.

Lindgren’s placement on the wire came as little surprise with Keith Kinkaid being brought in back in July to serve as a more proven backup option for Carey Price.  He’s coming off a tough season with Laval but even his cheap contract ($750,000 for two more years) didn’t attract interest.

GM Marc Bergevin has shown a penchant for moving recently-cleared players in the last couple of years and both players could be candidates to continue that trend.  At this point, there’s a bit of a logjam between the pipes in Laval while a change of scenery for Hudon could certainly be beneficial for him as well.  If that doesn’t happen, he’ll be a key player with the Rocket.

Montreal now has 24 players remaining in camp – two goalies, eight defencemen, and 14 forwards.  Assuming that they carry the maximum 23 on the roster, that means that two of Nick Suzuki, Ryan Poehling, and Cale Fleury will be on the season-opening roster which must be submitted by Tuesday at 5:00 PM EST.
