HabsWorld.net --

The Habs have locked up a pair of prospects, announcing the signings of defenceman Josh Brook and winger Joel Teasdale to three-year, entry-level contracts.

Brook was a second-round pick (56th overall) back in 2017 and had a strong season with Moose Jaw of the WHL.  In 45 games with the Warriors, he collected 32 points (3-29-32) along with 36 PIMS and a +48 rating, the second-best mark on the team despite missing 27 games.

He also impressed in his lone preseason game thus far with his mobility and willingness to get involved in the attack.  However, he’ll need to work on his play in his own end and picking when to attack and when to hold back for him to take another step forward.

According to CapFriendly, Brook’s deal breaks down as follows:

2018-19: $650,000 base salary, $92,500 signing bonus, $182,500 games played bonus, $70,000 AHL salary
2019-20: $700,000 base salary, $92,500 signing bonus, $132,500 games played bonus, $70,000 AHL salary
2020-21: $800,000 base salary, $92,500 signing bonus, $32,500 games played bonus, $70,000 AHL salary

As for Teasdale, he went undrafted back in his second year of eligibility back in June but was quickly invited to development camp afterwards.  New Laval coach Joel Bouchard is quite familiar with him having coached the 19-year-old with Blainville-Boisbriand of the QMJHL where he put up a point-per-game average (32-33-65) in 65 games last season.

His deal is as follows, also per CapFriendly:

2018-19: $650,000 base salary, $70,000 signing bonus, $70,000 games played bonus, $70,000 AHL salary
2019-20: $700,000 base salary, $70,000 signing bonus, no GP/performance bonuses, $70,000 AHL salary
2020-21: $700,000 base salary, $60,000 signing bonus, no GP/performance bonuses, $70,000 AHL salary

Assuming that neither prospect plays in ten or more games with the Habs this coming season, the contracts will slide a year and begin in 2019-20. Both players will push for a roster spot with Team Canada at the World Juniors after being invited to participate in their summer training camp (although Brook was unable to go due to injury).
