HabsWorld.net --

The Habs made their first significant round of roster cuts on Friday, trimming their group at camp down by 23 players.  Here’s a listing of who was cut plus other notes from the day.

Sent to Junior

F Joel Teasdale (to Blainville-Boisbriand, QMJHL)
D Scott Walford (to Victoria, WHL)

While there aren’t any real big surprises among that group, it’s worth noting that Evans was among the cuts which means he has received the green light to return from the concussion he sustained back in the rookie tournament which is good news.  (Jarret Tyszka, also concussed in that tournament, remains with the team and is among the group of players listed as injured.)

Speaking of the injured players, a total of seven players currently have the injury designation:

Defence: Matt Taormina, Jarret Tyszka, Shea Weber
Forwards: Nicolas Deslauriers, Andrew Shaw, Nick Suzuki, Hayden Verbeek

Suzuki’s presence on there is a bit of a surprise but Claude Julien noted that he expects Suzuki to be back at practice tomorrow.

Including the injuries, there are now 43 players remaining at camp (24 forwards, 16 defencemen, and three goalies).  Even with Shaw, Weber, and likely Deslauriers all set to start the year on injured reserve, that means at least 17 more cuts still need to be made before now and the start of the regular season on October 3rd.
